An update on the new 3G Pitch at Castle Activity and Fitness Centre

Posted October 2026

You may be aware that as part of the redevelopment of the Castle site in Spalding, a new 3G pitch is being installed, supported by grant funding from the Premier League, The FA and the Government’s Football Foundation.

The pitch, with floodlights and dedicated changing facilities, will be available for use by partner sports clubs and wider community use and be suitable to support a variety of different sizes and forms of activity. It will support 11 v 11, 9 v 9, 7 v 7 and 5 v 5 pitch sizes, with multiple games possible at once for the smaller-sided matches.

Work is now well underway on the pitch, with several key elements now in place:

✔️ Groundworks, drainage and kerbing have been completed

✔️ The lighting columns, acoustic fence and fencing posts have all been installed

✔️ The pitch structure is now largely complete.

A tarmac layer is now being laid ahead of the artificial grass being installed later this month, to get the pitch ready for the new £28.3m Centre’s early 2027 opening, creating improved leisure, sports and community facilities for residents across South Holland.
